Using DSC Website / Emails at work - a warning

Since taking up the post of Website busy-body, I've been alarmed at the number of people who appear to use a work based E-mail address to receive mail from the DSC.

I thought I'd post my own experiences of this - I should of done this sooner really.

The last company I used to work for had a fairly relaxed attitude to internet usage until, the installed a site wide maintenance system that relied heavily on the internet (the word SAP will instill fear into a few peeps I imagine).

We all knew that a 'net-nanny' was being used to stop anyone looking at naughty website and the like but during dinnertime we all still used to look up local news, play on-line games etc etc.

I must admit I used to be pretty good, but since it was around the time I bought my 900ss - I was (even more than now) addicted to browsing the DSC and other Duke websites. Within a few weeks virtually all my work colleagues, including myself had all internet and E-mail access withdrawn.

I had to attend a disciplinary hearing in which every single website I had visited and every email I had made were all shown to me as electronic logs.

I then had to sign a disclaimer to state that I would only make Business related use of the Internet and Email services - and left with a verbal warning.

With the progress of software technology I imagine its now easier (and cheaper) than ever to monitor EXACTLY what staff are doing on-line.

I'd hate for anyone to get any black marks against them of any type, just because of their love of Ducati's

Please be careful out there.

Cheers - Frank

how scary? just email addresses at work? or do they know about visits to dsc site too if email sent to hotmail?

I try and do mine mostly at lunch time or just before i start work or finish work, but i do extra hours for free, so hopefully my boss will allow me occasional usage purely cos I do lots for work in my own time As long as I don't take the p***

My favourite film talkboard is now banned from work use (because it is a "forum" apparently.

Strangely, the DSC (and indeed alfaowner.com) are spared.

At the moment.

Bit annoying and petty really. I don't post during working hours; it's only for my lunch break.

You should also take into account any password etc used to access things like your paypal account can be logged if your on an internal system, an unscrupulouse IT guy could have alot of fun at your expence
