50mm road legal cans
Would there be any benefit fitting a pair of 50mm road legal cans to replace my 45mm road legal cans? Would the chip be ok or need to be changed? Bike is a 2001 996bip..i like the sound of race cans but working shifts don't like being anti-social..

I reckon you'd be better off getting a set of race termis and taking advantage of the inserts that can be temporarily installed for normal use and then you can really enjoy the noise when it is safe to do so.

I think that TecMoto do them - others on here have them I think - watch this space.

Did not the later 996's come with 50mm pipes as standard, I would have thought any increase in pipe size from 45mm on a 996 would be a improvement as the original 45mm systems were designed for the 748s and 916s.
Hopefully somebody will be along soon to give you a more detailed answer on what to expect

I was thinking of replacing the standard cans with a pair from the 996s/996sps along with a 45/50mm intermediate pipe. But not much point if the difference is small !

The difference would be minimal if you're only changing the end cans I reckon. You'd get more benefit from fitting the whole 50mm- road legal system, but again, probably much more, you'd be much better off getting a full 50mm system with termis (race) or even just the 50mm race end cans.

You could always push the bike away from your house before you started it????????

Mine has the larger later type cans..so maybe the only difference is the pipework?? Looks like it's going to have to be to be 50mm race cans with the inserts.

I start my new job in 3 weeks, which involves early starts- how much difference will these baffles make in terms of noise? i have 50 mil SilMotors & its not so much the noise, but the low hum off them when ticking over- it seems to travel to every point in our house!! People up the road hear it ticking over too. Dont want to fall out with anyone!!

Perhaps you should take them off and sell them...
