Datatool 4 Alarm/Immobiliser

I was on the 'phone renewing my insurance with carole nash and they were plugging this datatool 4 kit with a transponder tagging system and trickle charger for £349 (fitted).

They also said they would send a boy round to fit a ground anchor in my garage and supply me with an oxford chain, which is supposed to cost £100 (the chain).

The system comes with a three year guarantee and if the bike was nicked, they would give me back the £349 and provide me with a courtesey bike.

Has anyone had experience of this alarm system? does it annoy the neighbours by going off on its own? The chap said the battery should be good for 2 months on a stored bike, unlike the older ones that drained the battery in about 2 weeks.

Having had five bike thefts/attempt in the last 5 years, I'm thinking I'll try it out.

Thanks, AA

Is the DataTool System 4 available now then? I was under the impression that it was still on its way, as it has been for longer than I can remember!

Well, the chap did say it was a new system, and hinted they had the first batch. I didn't want to accept the system there and then, on the phone, and said I'd ask at my local bike shop about costs, etc. He also said to make sure I didn't accept an older, inferior system.

I wondered who actually went about checking bikes with stolen "tagged" parts. He said bike theives actually have the scanners themselves and are less likely to steal a tagged bike. Do the bike dealers have scanners for checking their stock for stolen parts?

I've had an S4 system on my bike for a year now, and it's proven reliable. I was getting some false alarms from the motion sensor initially, but the software was redesigned and since then it's been fine.
I did a thread about it in the alarms section with a few comments...

The price you're talking about there sounds pretty good when you factor in the extras you're getting.
