A friend after a classic 900ss

A guy I know from another forum is after something as below...

"I fell in love with this bike when I was 17. Made in the late 70's and early 80's the 900SS just oozes class, and Conti silencers make it sound sounds glorious."

"Where do you think I might find a minter?"

Now I know nothing about these bikes at all but does anybody know of any for sale? Or any other info tha might be relevant? Are they rare? Expensive? A pain to own?

Might want to have a word with Tony at Brancato Engineering. They are restoring a couple there and the quality of the work looks extremely high. He had one that'd been in for some time that might be worth enquiring over.....

I had a 900 bevel (Darmah) and yes they do need some tlc (but so do most classics) and the are a joy to ride. Big end bearings don't tend to last very long, though I believe they can improve these now. Also if he gets the 900ss he is without doubt getting one of the best looking bikes ever made.

Always check the wheels for cracks when you buy one of these as they have a history of cracking!

The early bikes gave everything else a bad reputation - it was a lack of quality control that was the problem - and later bikes had good bearings, good wheels, good regulators etc. (Does that sound familiar

)
Just like the rubber-band-SS, the bevels need more looking after than jap stuff, but have bags more character.
Its better to buy one thats being ridden than one thats stood for a while, as the big lump of an engine can attract condensation. (But thats true for any bike isnt it

)
If you dont like a stretched out riding position, you wont be comfortable on the SS, cos its got a long tank to go witht hat long wheelbase !
And its heavier than you think, with no sidestand, and a pretty crap centre stand !
