998R Battery

I forgot to look at the battery before I left this morning to see exactly what type it is. I'm pretty sure it's a Yuasa YT12B-BS can anyone confirm this for me?

I'll be looking for the Odyssey equivalent if I can.

Hi Tony,

I think the battery on the marginally more desirable 996R model (stir,stir ) is

a YB16AL-A2

This link suggests the 998R is the same

Oops...ignore me. Yuasa site shows YT12BB for 2001 996 and 2002 998 , R models not specified.

Best wait until someone who knows what they're talking about comes along (checked the owner's manual, but it doesn't give battery model
)

I rang Nelly - it's the YT12B-BS

None of the Odyssey batteries are the same dimensions so I'm just going to replace it. There is a battery company in Twickenham that has them in stock so I've arranged to pick one up this afternoon.

If that goes in and it doesn't start I'll be one unhappy camper!!!

unless the new battery you are getting has had the fluid added already
it will need at least 12 hours to get itself up to speed before use.

I have heard conflicting advice on this. Nelly said I should have it on an optimate for 6 hours after the battery is prepared. The guys I'm buying the battery off say it will be good to go once they've prepared it. I pick it up and whack it in. Now you're saying 12 ..

Help!

I'm tempted to just chuck it in as the battery company advised that and if there's any issues they'll be the ones I'll be taking it to replace if they're any issues within the 12 mth battery warranty?

I dunno ...

but if there prepared to honour it if it goes wrong what the hell

TP,

Them R's don't like being left unridden, a combination of ageing fuel, cold weather and big compression will show up the slightest weakness in your battery, old or new.


Few can resist the power of the jump leads however!

A bit of run and and a top up with fresh fuel will work wonders.

You may well find the current battery is up to the job as long as you run the thing and top up the fuel regularly.

Nowt more infuruating than the neighbours standing and watching asking why you are taking the bike "for a walk".
