winterising a 600ss

I know its being asked many times b4 but there is always new wisdom no doubt so could any1 point me towards the best way to put my 600ss to sleep for winter? Just had all the servicing done inc oil changes and will not now be run until the gritting stops, so march probably

Please note i have asked a similar question but for another of my babies in the 748 section

I had thought as follows -

raise off floor, reduce pressures by 10psi
drain carbs
wd40 all over the engine and parts
cover the exhausts
tsp of oil in the 2 bores, turn over by hand in say 3rd then put sparks back in
oil all pivots, cables and joints
remove battery and put on a trickle charger

anyone think of anything else? or tell me the above is wrong?

Drain any petrol out of the tank!

Do oil and filter change before laying up

i often wonder re the drain the tank question - for such a short layoff - isnt the inside of the tabnk more prone to rusting without petrol in it?

If you drain it, then if there is a any liquid in it you know that it will be condensation and you need to get it out.
The other reason is that petrol goes off in about a month and can gum up the inside of the fuel pump, etc making it harder to start in the spring.

I have just finished sorting out a Pantah, that someone had left petrol in and the gunge in the carbs had gone hard like a varnish, I ended up replacing most of the jets, etc. The petrol taps I only just managed to save by soaking in thinners for 2 weeks!

Modern petrol is only good for leaving in tanks for short periods!

I thought it took a lot longer for the petrol to gum through presumeably evaporation / separation

I will look at draining the entire system - where is the best place to do this from or is it multiple place son a 95 600ss?

From memory there is a drain bolt on the back corner of the tank near the hinge.

Alternative that I used on the ST was to disconnect fuel pipes and take tank off then invert over a funnel into a jerry can.

I now put all my odds and sods of petrol through the family Nissan runabout, apparently it will run on 90 octane petrol, does not mind redex, lead additive or octane booster or even Italian green coloured petrol!

How do you clear the pump? obviously just draining the tank wont do it - do you just drain the tank first and then run it till it dies?

Suppose then can drain the carbs as well?

any problem with doin gthis?
