My 748s came with 748E headers (from the factory) they are different and the 748E headers cannot be altered 45mm to 50mm (male female stuff).

Once we discovered tis the unrestricted link pipe etc makes a big difference

Yep...definately the original link pipe.

And as the slip on cans...well...slipped straight on, I can only assume they must be 45mm at the joint.

So the question is, can you get a 45mm straight through link pipe?

I know there are 45 to 50mm links, this is common...but 45mm straight through???

I have a similar setup with 45mm carbon termis on my 996. In stead of changing immediately for a 45/50mm half system (which i plan to do), is it not possible to remove the baffling from the 45mm link pipe? just asking before i set about dismantling everything. Anyone done this?

I'm glad someone pointed this out otherwise i'd probably not have twigged the link pipe was baffled. Cheers.
