ST Tyres
following last weeks ride two up loaded to IOM and a few 100 mile on the island I now need new tyres on the ST4. I am considering Dunlop sportmax RoadSmart as they were reccomended by MCN.
Having not previously used dual compound tyres any reccomendations would be appreciated.

a lot of my riding is two up on motorway/dual carriage ways and can include luggage this why I thought dual compound might suit but happy to take any advise

I've got Pilot Roads on my ST4S-very happy with them. I have used Diablo's and Diablo Strada as well as the original Pilot Sports.
I'm on my second set of pilot roads, but i'm thinking of trying the dunlops next time, not because I dislike the pilots but just maybe i'm missing out?
just tried out my new Pilot Roads, dual compound, and they were better than I expected. A lot of grip on very tight back roads, warmed up fast, very comfortable on the highway. did a total of about 150 km of two lane switchbacks going up and very very tight and narrow (for Japan) switchbacks going down the other side of a dead volcano. My buddy was on a Tuono R and he is bloody fast, but he did not press the point and we had a fast, but safe tour. tires gave me no insecure moments at all. Now I wonder how they will wear. Oh yeah, he had about 2300 km on his Tuono R and the Pirellis were getting close to exchange time....he does ride hard though.

I've fitted a Pirelli Angel ST this time around. It grips just as good as the diablos I had previously, and seems to be wearing much better. A recent trip that would normally cost me a tyre for the trip has left this tyre still looking in good shape. They are worth a look next time imo.
I thought the pilot roads were good too, but just didn't last for 2 up riding.
I use the pilot 2's. Dual compound, with 3 compounds between the 2 tyres - so super sports on sides of front, sports on centre of front and sides of rear, and a harder compound across the three inches of the centre of the rear. They've never given me any nasty moments and feel very planted. The rear has lasted superbly without squaring off - very good idea if you are doind a lot of motorways or two up. Mike
