should i worry ?

my 916 has never done this before in fact its never done anything naughty, ooops sods law, i was giving it big licks 100/120 for about 6/7 miles, late officer sorry!, stopped and while the bike ticked over [a few seconds] the oil light flickered stopped engine toot sweet, check oil...spot on the mark. start couple of flickers off again ???? let cool down check for loose wire [a few hours] then start again.. everything aok ????? rode 25 miles no flickering ....spurious electrical fault perhaps??? never done this before...any ideas peeps?

The oil pressure switch itself is a weak point on these bikes. Only about £10 or so i think.

Sounds exactly like an oil pressure switch problem to me. I had 13 of these little devils go on my 748, and it went something like this: -

1) Starts flickering at tickover
2) Stays on all the time
3) Pumps oil out of the top of the switch

There's normally a few miles pause between each stage - except when it did all 3 in one go at Donington, sprayed oil of the back tyre and I became intimately acquainted with the gravel trap at Redgate...

Pop a new switch in, and if it still does it seek urgent dealer advice.
