I know this probarly a real simple/stupid qeustion, and you guys and girls are doing this all the time, but I need to tighten my chain, its the 1st time ive done it, and havn't got a clue where to start?? on my old CBR there was a bolt each side, undid that and just screwed the wheel back, but I sat there staring at the single swing arm and can't work it out, hope I havn't got to undo the big nut in the centre!! has anyone got a step by step guide.... pleeease!
Lift the bike on a rear paddock stand. With a 14mm socket, undo the two pinch bolts at the rear of the swingarm. There should be a large C spanner in your toolkit with a flat box section handle. Hook the C spanner over the castellations behind the sprocket and turn the hub anti clockwise to tighten the chain, clockwise to loosen it. It's important that you don't go clockwise to tighten!!! 25mm is a little, IMO, tight, I adjust so that the chain just slaps the underside of the swingarm with little force. Turn the wheel and check at several points on the chain so that you don't tighten it on a tight spot! Once you've got the tension correct, tighten the pinch bolts to 33Nm. Tighten one down, then the other, then go back and check the other is up to torque. Don't overtighten these. They don't need "3 grunts". You can fracture the swingarm if you over do it............
Castellations ... now there's a word you don't hear that often ... they're a long way away you know! How's he going to get the C spanner over one of them? And which one? Scorpio?
