see here for list of what SHOULD be done...

http://www.motorapido.co.uk/ducati%20servicing.php

More to the point : buying a new Ducati should be a good, fun and enjoyable experience, you should be looking forward to picking it up not worrying if you are being stitched up. Go to a good dealer, you MUST be able to trust who you are buying it off.

I have had a nasty experience with a dealer who ignored my warranty claim (on a Yam by the way) and thinking back on it, I knew it would happen and was stupid to buy from them.

best of luck.

As Noel Edmond would say " deal or no deal ?"
I said no deal.
And I qoute " due to the low mileage(3300) it does not need a full 2 year service,we can do a few extra things for you but at your cost"
I would not feel happy buying a bike and riding it if since october 2004,all that had been done is a belt and oil/filter change.
This was my first experience with this dealer, and my last.I am sure that they have plenty of satisfied customers in the past and good luck to them.I am suprised at how little they really cared about getting my hard earned cash.

p.s. didn't even get a free coffee when I visited !

Will name and shame later.

Tough choice, especially when you have your heart set on a new bike, but well done, stick to your guns and you'll always get what you want.

Well if it's a 53 plate then the bike is 2 years old and is due it's 2 year service. Ducati servicing is mileage AND time dependant which any Ducati dealer should know.

I suppose a 3k mile bike might not actually need a full 12K/2 Year service but Ducati wrote the servicing rules so you'd expect a dealer to honour them.

plenty more 749's around - the attitude stinks - of course it needs a full service before you pick it up. not only is it 2 years old, but it has been sitting around not being used, which is not always a good thing.Good on-ya for sticking to your guns and letting your head rule your heart. My 748 had 3,500mls on it when i bought it (private sale)and it was conditional on being serviced at an agreed ducati specialist (we agreed rosso corse) and i got to check with them/keep the bill etc etc.....aaahhhh peace of mind-good to have when blatting about having a good time.

And if your average Joe Bloggs didn't get it serviced according to Ducati guidelines then I guess you'd be on your own come warranty time as well.

Good on yer Rosso.

WRT name and shame - don't think you'll get away with slanderous(?) stuff, just suffice to say there's a bike in xxx which I declined.

The dealer I decided not to buy from was Riders of Bristol.
I popped into Motorapido on the way home, totally different atmosphere, helpful and they are always full of excellent advice. If something comes along then I would not hesitate to buy a bike from there.
There we go rant over !!
the search continues......

Had a couple of dealings with Moto Rapido and I only have one bad thing to say about them .... they are 162 mile away

Still worth the drive to deal with true enthusiasts

Interesting I got both my dukes from Riders and they were new and never had any problem with riders yet. Suprised they would say that always seemed to stick to Ducatis servicing with mine.

My 748s has been there for nearly a year now since i got my S4r!
Wonder if that has had its 2 year service before some one buys it!!!
