REAR SPROCKET REPLACEMENT _ ADVICE NEEDED Call me a picky but the OE rear sprocket coating has started to corrode making it look very scruffy so im thinking of replacing it. My 998s has done 5500 miles so can I just change the sprocket or do I also have to replace the chain as well. I used to race mountain bikes many moons ago and with bikes it was always necessary to replace the sprocket and chain at the same time because as the chain wears, the distance between the links increases and this wears the sprocket. If you just replace the sprocket or the chain the two dont bed together and the chain slips. Is this the same with motorbikes ? Which make of sprocket is best (Renthal, Afam etc) I looked in the Deman Tweeks catalogue and it states that I need to buy a sprocket carrier (£120 odd quid) as well for the 998s/996r. Is this correct or am I getting confused with quick release spockets ? Roachman Wadd |
