I could stand to be corrected, but did the S not come into manufacture until 2000?

sp = sports production model.
It came out in around 1995-1996. Limited edition bike with engine and chassis enhancements for racing (I had one - was lovely).

The SPS was a further development of that which came out in around 1998.

This then led to the R being released around 2000.

There was no 748S in 1998, probably a 748 Biposto with seat conversion...

Enjoy!

The SP was still imported into the UK by Moto Cinelli till 97, this was around the time the company had problems.
You can not be sure what they exported over the pond

Have you any pics of your bike ?, the SP has Ohlins items, 50mm pipes etc
you can also trace the exact model by the frame/engine numbers
if you require further help drop me a U2U I think I have a book at home which lists the frame numbers over the years and this could help identify the model
