Dead left hand

This isn't an adolesent tale...
When riding the 1000DS SS for more than 1/2 hour in anything other than open roads I find that my left wrist and hand go dead (ie having to use the clutch whilst riding). The clutch doesn't feel that heavy, but i guess it is a combination of body weight and angle of the handlebars that eventually cause my hand to numb.
Is this just me and is there a mod to the bars that can stop this from happening? Apart from this I find the rest of the bike extremely comftable and can ride it all day.

Try moving the bars for a better position, I prefer them angled back and not to straight. Also see that the clutch lever isn't too high. The lever should be just below the height of the bars so that your fingers, wrist and elbow are in a straight line when your fingers reach for the clutch lever.
