consumer debt collectors (ebay)!!!!!

Hi,can any one tell me if I have a leg to stand on this problem?

Sold a phone on ebay and the guy paid with paypal,I sent the phone only to find out the next day the payment had been withdrawn

This happened about a month ago, spoke for a while by email said he would pay straight in to my bank etc.Surprise surprise no money turned up.He now doesnt answer any emails.

The amount is not a few quid so not willing to let it go.So can I get a debt collector involved or do they only work for large firms as this is a private matter?

thanks for your help on this
Matt

Ebay do have an arbitration service but, I used it a few years ago and it was less than useless.

Fingers crossed for paypal for you - keep a firm hold on your proof of postage !!!

Register the IMEI number of the phone as being stolen then he can't use it ever again.

Dont mess around or be polite ,tell them you have been defrauded through them and had goods stolen, and and get in touch with the police-tell paypal this too.

Small claims court? Used to be for "upto £100" but I imagine that has increased now. THe idea is that it's a way for us mortals to get some legal redress without invoking the entire legal system.

I had this kind of problem but in reverse..I bought a pair of (new) shoes from an e-bay trader last year for a bargain price, (bet she wished she'd stuck a reserve on 'em). Cheque was cashed but no shoes arrived. The seller claimed that they must have got lost in the post, but clammed up after I asked for proof of posting. Letters to her business address went unanswered so I looked up her private address on 192.com and wrote threatening small claims proceedings..I was sent a refund by return.
