Front spindle allen key size please
I need to remove the front spindle on my 91 900ss. It has a large allen key socket.
Do you know the size please !!!
Thanks very much.

14mm I think.

Couldn't buy one that size in Halfrauds, so had to buy a "sump drain plug" key instead ... which was exactly the same thing!

Put a bolt in it, backwards, with two nuts wound onto the bolt, in locknut fashion, then unto the axle with a ring spanner on the inner nut!

I think from a safety point of view, having a proper socket is the way to go, I got a small rack of them from Halfords a little while back for £20.

Just something that caught me out first time - dont back the outer clamp bolts off completely or else the bushing will just spin the LH fork leg and the axle will not unscrew...

+++ Keep a CLOSE eye on the speedo drive when putting eveything back together, its easy to either crush the drive or allow it to spin and damage the speedo cable ot get it in the wrong position if the cable aint fitted.

Good luck !!!

Read your post to late mate. Took a few minutes to figure out why the spindle wasnt un-doing. Anyway all done now ta.
The sump drain key thing fits a treat with 14mm and a socket on the other will be fine to torque it back up.

Thanks very much all
