Not 100% certain on this phil but i think an early Monster hugger is nigh on a bolt on fit for the 851 ? I really need to have a look at a few Monster rear ends to confirm
Have just spoken to guy at spareshack and he also thinks early monster swing arm is similar to 851. One difference I can see is that tabs on 851 are vertical and this one has horizontal tab.
I suppose it's not the sort of thing to bodge up for safety reasons.
Nope, that one won`t fit, like you said, the fitting screws go in horizontally, that one goes in vertically. But the very early monster ones(first ever run I think)are the same.If you want a carbon fibre one for your 851 try Nigel at Sandbar 01295812792,I think Forza 01327858916 is an outlet for his carbon, top quality to,but not cheap.
give Nigel (sandbar) a call as he will probably discount those prices, I've just ordered and paid £95.00 for a carbon hugger for my 1990 851 (among with other odds and ends ordered). I'm still struggling to find a carbon mudguard for mine - it seems that there isn't one available for the Marzocchi RWU forks !!, no problem as such as I've managed to butcher a one off e-bay that was £40.00 it just doesn't look as good as the Ilmberger stuff fitted to USD forked bikes I've seen. BTW the same hugger from Baines racing (and yes it's an Ilmberger hugger) is £135.00 delivered. cheers
yeah Phil the Carbon mudguard is originally a USD fitment, I've just left the RWU aluminium brace in place marked out 4 holes onto the mudguard and drilled em thru, as well as this I've trimmed / re-profiled the bottom edges (the legs were way too long) and re-sealed em with clear nail varnish. I've used the mounting holes on the guard legs and cable tied it too the fork legs as well as onto the aluminium brace to hold it all in place. It doesn't look too bad - I'll get some pics posted when I'm back in the UK next week.
