996SPS vs 996R

I have just been offered a 996R

How do they compare to the 996SPS?

This may lead to a mint 996SPS that's just had the full Cornerspeed treatment last week for sale (pictures of it on Lily's post, We have a model in our midst).

I'd love to hear from anyone (Rattler springs to mind) who has owned/ridden both please.

Many thanks in anticipation.

I may be a bit slow in replying as off to France for a week tomorrow.

Must be going mad because i love the SPS, but have never ridden a testastretta engined bike.

I have only owned the 996SPS but you can't really go wrong if it's a minter. Grin from ear to ear whenever I took it out. If the 6 numbers came up, I'd have one in the dream garage.

Rgds, Rob

Blimey - where to start????

The best answer is have both !!!! LOL

They both have their merits, it just depends on what you're looking for.

The SPS probably has more character but is not as complete a bike as the R is.

The R is obviously faster, but lacks the real punchy power delivery that you get from the SPS .

If you want to play with the big Jap thou' boys on trackdays, then the R will get you close enough to upset a few, but the SPS will really keep you smiling with its awesome power delivery.

Give me a call Sean and we'll discuss.

Tim
