Tire question

What would you guys suggest for new rear, stay with the stock 190/50-ZR17 or drop down to a 180/ something for better handling. I dont race ever, if that helps figure it out. Oops forgot, have a 2000 996 S.

Drop to a 180/55, whatever your riding style you do, it'll improve things no end.

afternoon,

you will find that virtually everyone here with a 748/9** has scaled down to the 180 rear .... it helps speed up the steering .....

Interesting. My 996 sps came with Dunlop D208's witha 190 on the rear and ze man from Dunlop said stick with it. He also said if you fit a 180 then thou must fit a 160 0r 165 on the front which seems to contradict everyone else's advice,

I think i would prefer the 180 myself to speed up the steering.

Does the SPS not come with a wider rim than the standard bike which allows for the correct tyre profile to be kept on the 190 rim?

That's just what i was going to ask about . I live in America, so i have the S version, not SPS, so i was curious about rim size. I heard for the 5.5 rim, go with 180 and 6" rim go for the 190. In my owners manual its kind of vague and doesnt really get into it much.
