What needs doing?

Titchy Sony Vaio, has all plug in devices - inc A/D & E drive printer etc, as well as psion gold card - so cannot download anything onto disc from internet (as e drive uses same port). I can fit it into handbag tho!
Basically very slow to start up. Takes about 7 mins before I can log in my password, then another 4 - 5 mins before screen is loaded.
It has 2 x 'found new device' wizard pop-ups which I just cancel, before I can start using it.

I'm not the administrator for it, tho do have to log my user password to enter.... I dont have admin password either.
Needs everything being wiped (I think) then re-loading..

Ideas? - might be a job for a yukky day?

Let me know if up your street

We do have the dinosaur puter upstairs, which we find quick to use - I only use the laptop now when wanting to be sociable downstairs.

try installing bootvis, got it on my vaio and used it to identify where exactly it was slow. Turns out it was waiting for peripherals that were no longer there and hadn't been uninstalled correctly.

Portugal for a month? Anywhere near Vilamoura? I have a small place there that needs the exterior painting. A mate of mine is supposed to be going over to do it but he keeps putting it off. He was getting 2 weeks free accomodation in return for 3 days or so of painting. The place is virtually on the "old course" at Vilamoura if its golf you are into! I may go out myself yet now I have started to think about it.

I was staying on Vale do Lobo in September - played the old course at Villamoura too.
I may well be interested - I could quite fancy a few days painting and a few days golfing.
