Ducati issue their own sonic tester - good luck with buying one of those and make sure you're sitting down when you ask the price!

Gates, who actually make the belts for Ducati, do one as well:

I think they're about £400 retail.

There are a couple of free bits of software that use a PC and a microphone.

One is on the Ducatidiag forum and called Courroies. Don't know if the link will work http://jpl250rs.perso.sfr.fr/download.php

The other is called CBMTool and is here http://www.kchall.plus.com/

Often the Best option if you only have one Ducati and only getting the belts done every two years or so

As my ducati collection is into Double figures I invested in not only the Ducati Mathesis Diagnostic tool along with the additional belt tensioning kit but also the Cam locking tools that are also required when doing the belts as per the Ducati procedure
That little lot would pay for quite a few belt changes and always at your own risk
