I run a 7" x 3" plate with as large as numbers as possible. Have been stopped a few times, but, always given a rectification note as it's not taking the pi55.

As I understand it, if you are reported to the DVLA 3 times for messing around with the size, layout etc then the DVLA could remove the number plate and issue a Q plate .... urban mythe or truth, sure some will be along soon to tell me.

Also been told that the penalties for having a small or modified plate are higher than having no plate at all ... again sure that someone will be along soon to tell me I'm talking "rubbish"

The removal of the number only relates to a cherished mark but I do know that it only needs to be reported to them twice for them to recall the plate.
Penalty in its basic form for both offences is the same, £30 fixed penalty, although if taken to court it's up to £1K
