900SS Gearing

Hello All

I have a 900 Final Edition and have fitted a 14T front sprocket but still feel it wants more! I am therefore thinking of fiting a larger rear sprocket to go with the 14T front.

I have read lots on gearing in the forum but would be grateful to hear of peoples experiences and recomendations with different gearing combinations on a 900.

I am also considering a Dynacoil kit and possibly if and when funds allow Keihin FCR41s, any experience of these would also be appreciated.

Regards
Richard

Hi Rich,

I'm also on a 14t front sprocket, but I'm going two down on the rear to 38t as its better to ride the torque of the ss and it wont hurt it too much on the track. Mines inj. so cant help with the FCR's

Hi Richard, here is a post I made ages ago on gearing:

http://www.ducatisportingclub.com/xm...d.php?tid=2690

I have a Dyna coil kit that I bought recently that I hope to get around to fitting soon, I'll post it up on here.

FCR's appear to be the best thing since 41T sprockets for an SS - a few guys have them on here and I'm sure will comment more. Stronger top end and a smoothing out of the dreaded power dip seem to be just a few of the benefits - cons are that they are expensive and will need a dyno sess to get the best out of them, but, if u can afford 'em - I'd place them higher on a wish list than the coils.

Cheers - Frank

I was thinking the same thing - I went straight for a 39T rear and have never rode the bike on a standard 37T and was thinking "what must this have been like on 37T!!". Bike still pulls over 135mph on the speedo (apparently, in a closed environment with a professional rider)

Nice disclaimer Ziggi -I like it!

Who was riding the bike then ??? (Sorry - couldnt help myself).

As an aside - I stuck with the 15T front sprok, as I was a bit concerned about chain wear on any thing smaller, thats why I've gone quite big on the rear......oh no, now I've left myself WIDE open

I know a few who've fitted the dynacoils and not found a noticible difference really.
The FCRs however do make a very noticible difference and are about the best mod you can make to the carb engine without spending a lot of cash. Get the 41s rather than the 39s, I got mine from Chris Kelly at California Cycleworks in the states, $780 ish plus $60 postage, arrived in 2 days, good service. A K&N air filter is included too. Not sure there's any more power at the top end, but a definate improvement in the midrange response.

Well, I ran my fe on std 15/37, and always thought it could do with a 39, but simply changed down instead. In the end I sold it before I got round to trying a 39.
The beast runs with 15/41, and I feel like I want to change up all the time !
Unfortunately it has an 851 corsa rear with a special sprocket, so I havnt got around to getting a 39 yet
However, I think 15/39 is the best compromise, as the engine is much happier in its midrange than at peak revs, and that means valve clearances will stay better too
(btw - Anyone know the quick way for me to get a 39 corsa sprocket ?)

So - I wouldnt go to 14/38 myself, as its virtually the same as 15/41
Stick with 14/37, which is virtually 15/39 anyway !
