Advice on which model to go for?

Here i go again with one of my many questions. Apologies for the monotony!

I want to get a 749 to use as a weekend bike, and hopefully on a track, although this will probably be a pipe dream(maybe).

Should i go for a 749 on a £800 down 0% deal (brand new),or a slightly older or pre-reg'd 'S'. With it not being an every day bike,i dont wish to get the best money can buy,and wonder if a rider of my experience/talent would even notice the benfits of the 'S'?

How much, and what, would be involved in turning/tuning the regular to 'S' spec? I could do this over time to keep the cash flow happy.

Cheers in advance.

I would go for the new 749.The advantage an 'S' has over standard is very small,...so small I doubt you would notice.

FRom personal experiance if you want an "s" get it from the start, costs a fortune to upspec, but from what you say a new base should do you fine (remember the new basic one was vertually the "s" of last year)

i'd go for a base 05 999 any day of the week, serious worth putting in a bit extra over the 749.
Its a lot bike for the money and looks very similiar to 'R'

You think?

Does it ride the same, just faster? Was told it was a bit of a pig to handle. I know very little really about sbk's so believe anything!

(Ill add you to my friends list. You got a 360?)

if you can stretch to a 999S, you'll get Ohlins suspension, radial brakes, a "track exhaust and chip" as well as the standard exhaust, lighter wheels etc.

yep had one since launch.. ahem!:P pgr3, cod2, pdz, doa4 and halo2!

back on topic a bit go have a look at the 999, its got the new sbk style swingarm, red frame etc. looks the mutts nuts.
Its what the 999R should have looked like when launched.
The 749 is an excellent bike but needs revving and riding quite a lot harder to really get everything out of it. With a 999 you dont have to wring its neck as much, you can be a lot more lazy for 80% of the time and still go v.quick without the effort. Yes there is a little bit more gyroscopic force from the engine to deal with but it is nothing really.
I had a stock 999 loaner for a day (03 model, which the new model has vastly improved on) a couple of years back when my 998r was getting serviced. It amazed me how good it was (i really did give it a right thrashing) and i knew then i had to get a 999r! it handled better than my 998r!
The 999s is a good bike but depends on what your budget is, i would recommend the base 999 every day of the week.

Whats the difference between the:

999S 2004
999S 2005
999S 2006

(it's not a joke either, it's a genuine question!)
