Thinking of 'projects' over the winter (bloomin' rain!!) and am going to have the forks looked at, change the springs, oil, possible re valve etc. Can you get the stancions nitrated? If so, where and how much? Can't really afford to buy ohlins (otherwise I would snap up pedros) but like the look. Is it just cosmetic or are ther benefits??

Nitrided forks supposedly just have less friction. How much difference you'd notice is debatable. I'd say not a lot and probably not worth the expense, unless you just want the look of course.

Looked into getting it done on my standard Showas a few months back. Northern company whose name I can't remember quoted me £250, so that wasn't a goer. If you're set on it, cheaper to buy a 2nd hand pair and flog your own to offset the price.

Think there are some nitrided Showas on Ebay also a set of Ohlins !!!

They go for anywhere between £80 - £140 depending on condition and quality of photos. I've been watching for months as I want a pair of nitrided ones for my SS.

A pair with ohlins internals went for £350 t'other day

I spoke to one of the suspension houses a few weeks ago (can't remeber which at the mo) that reckoned on about £80 for both legs to be nitrided while the forks were apart for a service and new seals. It's guaranteed to be one of those things that if you find out who actually does it, they'll do it for next to bugger-all.

K-Tech are listing TiN fork tubes for the Showa forks. £128.50+vat. You could replace yours and then sell your originals to get a few £'s back????
