I am not posting this to brag because frankly I don't find high speed that exciting it's the corners I live for. However, it is not often anyone has a chance to test the maufacturers claims and I thought some of you may be interested in this. I did a track day at RAF Wittering today which contains a 90+ mph corner (exit speed) followed by a very long straight (the runway) and I managed to see an indicated 177 mph before rolling off a tad (ok a lot) for the chicane. It still felt like it was pulling but that might have been the wind trying to push me off the back!! I have no idea what Ducati claim for the bike but I reckon that's fast enough!
top speed with a 14 tooth sprocket on the front of a 999s hitting the rev limiter in 6th gear is 282 kph- errrr 175.1 mph i think it should read - - - if you realy get the chance....
had over 170 on the clock (999s) which was a true 156 as per the lat timer top speed record. speedo's overread by approx 8% but lap timer on the 999 series give accurate top speed. must go out and have a top speed run again soon as bike now running properly so may get a true 160+
Good call from Dickie. The latest issue of Performance Bikes has a 999S featured in a group test. Bearing in mind the bike is bog standard; Top speed-163.43 mph (174 mph indicated) Power-124.4 bhp
Oh and Henners, the speedo's on those vintage bikes are way out!:P
