Oil change question

Just did my oil change w/ filter. Had the bike upright and let it drain till nothing fell out of the drain hole anymore. In the Haynes manual it says 4 litres of oil, is that right? I'm asking because i put in 3 litres, let it warm up for about 4 mins, then checked, its right at the full mark, where it should be. Weird, because the manual says 4 litres for my 2000 996 S.

No,the oil capacity is 3.7 litres when bone dry.If you have'nt removed the filter, strainer and front cylinder exhuast rocker cover there is still around half a litre left in the motor.Your 3 litres to the full mark is about right.

The correct oil capacity can be found on the techy pages on the Ducati website.
