Hi I have a set of 3 spoke wheels that I have track day wets mounted on. They're not in pristine condition
Of late the tyres are losing pressure
Having put the wheel under water it appears that the air is leaking out between the rim and the tyre
I haven't taken the tyre off but the wheel does have some corrosion patches and some of the paint has lifted.
Could it be that the corrosion is also inside the rim and that would cause the space for air to leak?
I suppose that the question is, assuming my thinking is correct, is the wheel for the bin or can it be saved and put back to 'as new' condition and able to seal again?
Hi Andy, I have got a three spoke rear wheel off a mid 90's ST 17 x 5.5" if that helps, quite good gloss black powder coat, no bearings or spacer, was about to put it on evil bay.
You surely mean bead blast not shot blast? The alloy of these wheels is quite soft and even bead blast at high pressure can remove metal - shot blast them and you wont have a rim!
