Bayliss quickest on wet first day at Valencia
From the MotoGP website
Troy Bayliss on his RC211V with the quickest time on a wet first day of tests at Valencia. With his replacement at Ducati, Carlos Checa, just a couple of doors down pit-lane, Bayliss worked alone in the Camel Honda garage as his team-mate Alex Barros' return from a shoulder injury was postponed until tomorrow.

Nicky Hayden also lapped without an injured team-mate, with Max Biaggi still ruled out with a broken ankle, and Makoto Tamada completed his first laps on Michelin's wet tyres as the only rider in the Konica Minolta Honda team.

Unofficial lap times:

Troy Bayliss – Camel Honda : 1’47.47 (24 laps)
Carlos Checa – Ducati Marlboro : 1’48.14 (24 laps)
Loris Capirossi – Ducati Marlboro : 1’48.56 (26 laps)
Nicky Hayden – Repsol Honda : 1’48.61 (26 laps)
Rιgis Laconi – Ducati Marlboro : 1’51.48 (26 laps)
Makoto Tamada – Konica Minolta Honda : no lap time given

Aside from the fact that Bayliss is fastest, Checa is the interesting one here. Faster than his team-mate again.... on a bike he's only ridden a few times...

As for Bayliss, he's now in the same position Edwards was in last year, faster than Hayden (Possibly Tamada too). Only time will tell whether he's faster than Barros.

End of day three and Checa finishes the test fastest - as at Jerez.

Interesting to say the least!

Be really good if Bridgestone come up with a race tyre as good as their quallifier. Not only should Ducati get a few pole positions but a few race wins would be nice.
Still impressed with Baylis test results on a privateer bike
