Well here goes,
I have just spent a few days down in Cornwall recently and thought that I would give a quick update on my 996 engine rebuild.
So far I have got around to pulling the heads, barrells and pistons off. And looking at the desmo system. So far so good.
The pistons and bores are in exellent condition. So are the rings. But I will chuck in a new set when I eventually get around to asembling the engine.
The heads are in very good condition along with the cams. BUT.................the dreaded rocker problem has reared its ugly head. DOH!
So I am looking at 2 rockers from the rear cylinder head. To be expected really. But not welcomed. The other rockers seem in good condition.
The valves and seats all seem good, so a quick lap in with light paste on the re build. All bits connected with the valves seem good too, but It will need quality checking later on.
My time spent on the engine was cut short as I had to service the rear brakes on my golf ( Had to drive back to London same day). Bugger.
Looking at the big and small ends, all appears ok but until I split the cases I cannot conform this. Once the cases are apart, I can go over the gear box etc and get my grubby hands on the crank as well. so stay tuned..........
Just waiting to get back down to Cornwall to continue the work.
Will remember to bring digi camera as well. So I can post up some piccies before the rebuild.
