OH NO NOT AGAIN! (ride like a tw*t and stay alive) I cant believe it I must be a magnet for every blind, stupid and incompetent driver in south east london! What are the odds of being smashed of a bike whilst staionary twice in 2 years? Yesterday evening riding home I filtered slowly down Anerly hill and my progress was stopped by a traffic island, Iwaited for the car to move forward and rolled forward untill parralel with a car which had stopped to leave a junction clear, I looked down into the drivers window (to make sure he was aware I was there) looked up and a *&%$£%*&* woman had pulled out of the road on our left and looking away from me down the hill she proceeded to accelerate straight into the front of annettes 996. very scarey to see the back of someones head whilst they drive into you, the bike shot backwards and then stopped and I was flung off backwards my head smashed into the floor and knocked me absouloutely sensless. I could see people pushing the bike into the kerb hear people calling for ambulance police etc but was so disorientated I could not stand up. when the lady! cocerned eventually came over the cheeky cow said @you were going to fast I didnt stand a chance' if 0 mph is going too fast perhaps she should be in a bath chair at 30 odd. Poor annettes beautifull sps now looks a little secondhand with a buckled front wheel, disc, poss fork damage and the perfect original bodywork which I had just refitted so I could repaint the track bodywork is a little secondhand and I feel like sh*t concoused back and kneck ache right arm and shoulder stiff and painfull, but hey even 10 years ago I woudnt have been wearing a top grade helmet and this could have been my obitury. shark helmets are bloody excellent thats twice they have saved me! dave Fed up and hoping to be fit to fly to imola on friday! I have just noticed the spelling is still rubbish I have been correcting the mistakes for 20 miniutes and I still keep missing mistakes. ps was it the geranium or the whale that said oh no not again in hitch hikers guide to the galaxy! pps The police who attended were very good, very insistant I went to hospital and totaly ignored the no tax displayed, pipes, number plate etc, the wpc was very interested to find out it was annettes bike, she had wanted one but was put off because everyone said it would be too big and heavy so maybe another convert on the way [Edited on 23-9-2004 by DAVE HARRIS] |
Unlucky Dave, hopefully you had loads of witnesses who will help in your claim. |
:o Damn, I hope your head is OK. The polics were right to insist on hospital checks. You just never know what soft tissue damage was done! I hope Annette is ok too, haven't met either of you but it just sends shivers down my spine! I remember the pain I was in when I had a car do a u-turn in front of me. The lady driver could have thought you were going quickly because she didn't see you at first (I know she didn't look ...) but it's no excuse. She could have done worse. I hope she gets some training as part ofher punishment. |
Dave - unlucky mate. Give me a call. This is EXACTLY what happenned to me last year. The guy was done for driving without due care and attention and I got full money for the repairs, kit and a small amount for personal injury. Give me a ring and I'll explain the rest and what to do (in case you have forgotten from the last time or your head is still spinning). Take care WeeJohnyB 07958 037005 [Edited on 23-9-2004 by WeeJohnyB] |
If a bang on the head meant I only speant 20 mins checking my spelling it would be an improvement. Sorry about the smash, but glad it isn't too bad. Good to see the coppers getting some praise for a change and helping out, and lets hope it all gets sorted quickly. |
Sorry to hear your story Dave. Can't believe the cheek of the lady - no "are you alrights", just "it's your fault"??!! Make sure the book is thrown at her! Hope you feel better soon. ps It was the whale Chi |
Dave - bad luck mate. Glad the injuries aren't worse, and heal quick. I had my 400/4 written off years ago in a similar situation, except the guy was actually looking forwards as he did it.... I got full compensation, and he got the driving without due care, so hope yours goes along the same lines. Also, I think it was a bowl of petunias!! |
A chap I know reversed his van into a guy on a Ninja and argued the toss with me that it was the biker's fault cos he shouldn't have stopped in the middle where he couldn't see him. Maybe so, but not really mitigating circumstances in my book. Best of it was Mr white van man has never even sat his driving test never mind passed it, and he's nearly 60. It was moron's like this that eventually made me give up road riding. |
Dave mate, get better really soon. Best of luck with your claim. Sorry one of the SFBs got to you :( |
Dave, Very sorry to hear this one mate. You must tbe gutted and fuming all at the same time not to mention sore..... Hope you get a just outcome to this one and that the witness/es come forward happily. Best wishes.... Guy |
Glad to hear your ok Dave. Well thats the 999r for Annette then. Better get yourself something more suitable, oh no I nearly forgot you have the other dozen to get through yet ! Take it easy Kev Ps Please ask Annette if she ever found out who the short fat bloke was at brands. |
Dave, so sorry to read that! I'm sure Annette won't have given you any grief about her bike knowing that you were Ok, kinda! (unlike the likes of me, who would've given you merry hell;)) These accidents are a flippin' outrage. People in cars should not be allowed to get away with it! Sue the 4rse off her, won't you? |
Oh no, not again! Sorry to hear of your plight Dave, hope you and Annette are soon OK, if there's anything I can do to help give me a shout. Maybe this'll slow you down long enough to catch you both at Findon some time ;) Take care, Paul. |
Thanks for all your kind thoughts and thanks to pietro for ringing last night. I am feeling a lot better today headache and confusion have gone, but the trade off is My back, neck and shoulder are aching from the bruising. I have declared myself fit to fly, and prescibed myself 25c sunny weekend drinking peroni and eating pasta and cured meats etc, so i am off to Imola to watch some close racing. John I will contact you next week I have too much catching up at work today, have a good weekend and to all of you at silverstone on monday you are far safer on the track! dave mmm beer |

Dave, you sound well enough, best of luck with the claim and the bike. Did the smack to the head affect your sense?!?!? Get back to hospital/GP and get checked out for sure that you are fit to fly! Have you not thought about any bruising/clotting. I mean this with the best intentions, honest. |
Hi Dave I'm glad everyone is OK . I'm also pleased that the police took the correct attitude towards you (See they arn't all bad) especially regarding the plate & pipes. However (and this may seem a bit churlish under the circumstances) I would have had little sympathy if they had done something about no tax disc. Two thing there is no excuse for too my way of thinking is no insurance and no tax |
Sorry to hear about your accident Dave, just take it easy and get well soon. Got Rider Support Services on that woman's case, they've always worked wonders for me! Sending a big hug to ya x x |
Hey Dave sorry to hear this but at least you're ok apart from the headache. Annette will just have to use one of your other fleet!!! |
Rocker, just to clarify "tax disc not displayed" the tax discs for all our bikes are in files at home I got fed up that every scrote in the area kept stealing my disc many years ago. The police can easily check if the vehicle is taxed with one call (soon to be mot and insurance as well). Chris, the fleet is severerely reduced now the 998 is in having an engine rebuild(overshimmed when new) annettes is wrecked, the 999 needs tyres and an oil change after all the track days. Celeste, they are already on the case, if anyone wants a good company for third party claims they get my reccomendation. My bank account is somewhat iffy at the moment does anyone want to rent a hard working good looking inteligent wife for a few weeks, alternatively purchase a worn out senile deaf old cat with continence problems. dave [Edited on 24-9-2004 by DAVE HARRIS] |
What colour cat? |
Dave, are you walking under ladders every day? Perhaps you are just paying the price for having a lovely wife that loves Ducati's, - God's jealous. ;) Take care. |
