999 Ohlins setup Following on from my last thread... Anyone got any settings for full ohlins on a 999? preferably biased towards the track Would it be worth using the settings off the Bostrom on the 999? I am assuming that Ducati kept the same geometry on the 999 as the 998... why change a winning formula? Or would this be a BIG no no.... I await Dibble to say "just ring JHP" |

well it's better advice than "phone Adam" .. |
My understanding is that the weight Bias is different between the newer bikes (999) and the older bikes (998), as such you may find the suspension has different spring rates and would therefore have damping to suit. http://www.section8superbike.com/749-999suspension.htm |
I know what JHP would say, " have the forks re-shimed with 25mm shims" A snip at 200 plus notes. Me I would go to Ktec |
i've got a fairly good set-up on mine, will check as i can't remember off the top of my head. |
K-Tech is it. |

Jon i guess your probably at work at the moment, and time is tight but it would be well worth running over to KAIS, which as you say is only 30 mins from you and getting it set up to suit. Even if you can't do it today, how about explaining the prob to Andy and even booking it in for crack of dawn tomorrow, i know this means missing the early part of the track day tomorrow BUT it may be better to do half a day with confidence, rather than a full day with doubts in your mind in view of last Sundays slip off (which i really believe is down to a combination of stone cold tyres and the masses of salt dumped on our roads of late). KAIS are on 01942 896366 and speak to Andy (tell him Ron Williams sent you!) I did and he nearly had a fit:lol: |
Shaun, I know Andy of old, he sorted the suspension on my 996 several years ago, might be worth me calling to see if he has any good base settings, I doubt I'm going to have time as both of our bikes will be in the van, and it's not fair to deprive Lily of her track day at the end of the day |

Jon, if it helps i'll get a works van for Lily's bike so she can do the morning session and you can get the suspension checked. Having said that, i very much doubt there is anything wrong with the bike, or indeed with your riding. So many other people have commented on the road salt additive issue, especially my lads on bikes at work who have ridden all thru the winter. Even when the roads are dry people are saying that the roads are just SO SLIPPY with the bloody stuff, and don't forgoet your tyres were stone cold as well. The Multi felt that bad recently that i spent an hour checking tyre pressures, suspension settings, play in bearings etc, but found nothing wrong whatsoever. thanks heavens that Oulton will not have been gritted. Having said that, its the first track day of the season on a new top class bike (did i really say that about one of those!) just get out there and build it up slowly, get used to the bike and ENJOY yersell. Even though i've ridden a bit through the winter i still feel a bit rusty, so no doubt its the same for you with the track days. |
As ever BDG goes way beyond the call of duty...... What more can I say |
I know you are concerned... but you were gonna ride tomorrow without changing any settings. you know that the incident was not due to suspension and would not have changed the suspensionsettings at all. I know you want to get it sorted, but nothing has changed suspension wise so why scrap your track day because of it? Just get out there and see how it goes. |
