The right glue for the job
 

Did a quick search for what I wanted but I seemed to get stuck ...

Can someone please advise me the best adhesive for:

1. Fixing the trim to the edge of the screen on a 999S

2. Fixing a carbon fibre cover to the existing tank pad on a 999S

Works for me - looks a bit messy but then I don't mind white gunky stuff seeping out all over the place ;););)

Impact adhesive.....if its done right...then it will never move

I'm not sure how permanently I want either item stuck - impact adhesive might be a bit too much. Thanks for answering though.

Why would you want anything of the things that you want to glue to be not permanent? Doesn't make sense Loz??

I suppose the screen trim isn't an issue, but I don't know how well the c/f tank pad will wear. If it ends up looking totally naff, I don't want to destroy the original tank pad underneath when I come to remove the c/f cover!

Theres a will and way to remove any glue. Impact is the strongest. Super Glue will work on the tank pad....but Impact is probably best for screen trim. you dont want the wind lifting it do you??

Davie, it occurred to me what effect the wind might have, hence my search for glue.
I'll try the impact adhesive for the trim and probably end up doing the tank pad too. Cheers for the advice.

Make sure both sides are almost dry and stick em together......once its together then its together.... do the instructions as per tube/tin.... very very tacky both sides and it should stick no probs

Clear silicone will do both jobs perfect.
And once cured can be peeled off with no damage to even paint work.
Please try and purchase a tube of it and not a boob !

Thanks for the idea, that sounds less "permanent" to me and so it's more to my liking.

Where can I purchase boobs? Will I get a discount if I mention your name or will I get chased out of the shop?

If I'm passing, I'll want more than a free boob job - a free cup of tea at least!

Super glue is not waterproof :o Still if you only ride in the dry thats OK

Hey Loz,I've been thinking about purchasing one of those carbon tank guards,...let me know how you get on with it.
(Not that I have'nt already got heaps of CF on the bike already!!:rolleye: )

You can always use double sided sticky tape for the tank pad or clear silicolne, both can be removed if needed.

A bit of advice to anyone wanting to remove an old tank pad or stickers: warm them up with a hair drier first and they just peel off!

Mike, I ride in all weathers. Not always by choice, of course.

KeefyB, I'll let you know how it goes. Bloody bling keeps creeping onto my bike when I'm not looking, I swear!
