New 1200 a step forward or back?

What do we think?

ath748 05-Apr-2006 10:58

If it's real, which it probably isn't, it at least needs underseat pipes.

BDG 05-Apr-2006 11:06

No offence meant to all you blind, utterly tasteless, clinically insane 749/999 owners but yes it is a vast improvement.

Not quite upto 996 standards, but not bad, would consider buying one.

p.s. to those of you that are lucky enough not to know me, don't take offence at my comments, i just like winding my mates with 999 style bikes up.

swannymere 05-Apr-2006 11:58

:puzzled:Absolutely minging, like the last bird at the disco, who you normally would'nt touch with a barge pole, but it's been a while, and noone will find out.
Looks like a complete compromise, more like a triumph than a ducati at the front and single sided swinger and twin-pipes are seriously dated.:flame:

MCN mismatch photoshop effort. cross bread 916 / 999.

that paper is getting worse  and i thought it was as bad as it gets.

Wake up and smell the coffee.

The whole point of the design is to provoke a response - good or bad.
Like BDG decries the 999 owners - at least in a few years time he'll be able to remember the bike - godawful ugly to some but beautiful to others.

Lloyds building is another example - I can remember exactly what it looks like - bloody awful and imho a disaster in engineering design - but I can remember it.

Smelt the coffee but turned out to be S**T

This is not a press release or early sneak preview of what the bike will be, its just mcn's GUESS. a moked up computer image, it must be a short week for news.

rockhopper 05-Apr-2006 13:34

I wonder what the point is though. With Ducati's racing heritage what class can a 1200 sportsbike be used in?

domski 05-Apr-2006 13:40

It looks like the early Trumpet Daytona 600

I can't think why Ducati would totally redesign the 999, surely they'll just fit a big engine into it???

:puzzled::eureka:

Felix 05-Apr-2006 16:24

MCN cack as usual. Not a chance Ducati will produce something that goes backwards styling-wise. You can just imagine the press headlines berating Ducati for it. It may get a mild make-over but I suspect BDG will still not want to buy it. ;)

Don't you own a Multistrada as well, Shaun? That must make your 996 look positively prehistoric.

possible the road bike would be 1200cc and the R spec 999 to keep with the rules. bit like the kawa 600's

if the new rules dont allow 1200 in wsb.... but that another story!

clint 999R 05-Apr-2006 22:23

1200 cc would be nice yes but how can people say they would buy one if mcn are right with there design when they hate the 749/999 when what they are looking at is a 999 with a dated swinger and dated lights. i have had 748 996 still luv them now but my 999r red frame black swinger is in a different league the trouble with having a ducati is you get to attached to it as we all know so when anything new comes along we or should i say 916/996/998 get all defensive and attack:mad: but you really should have a better look or even have a go because from the clocks to the exhaust its one of the most upto date bikes out there:P
