DaveB916 29-Aug-2006 19:57

Blimey that is a very expensive way of manufacturing them !!!!

He must have the aluminium swarf mountain of europe !!!

andyb 29-Aug-2006 20:08

If it was milled from billet....you think he would of made it thicker ie stronger! (i heard a cynic say its just a machined std cover thats anodised!)

If it was from billet, they cost normally a lot more than that.

Just looked, billet ones normally £100 ish upwards

Thought standard ones were pressed steel ... if so steel can not be anodised.

If it anodised it must be ally.

There was a guy selling standard covers with holes cut in them as a cheap version of a cut-a-way cover.

doogalman 29-Aug-2006 20:25

My standard one is steel. Were aluminium ones just fitted to certain years/models?

I thought ally ones were aftermarket items only, hence why I think the one on e-bay can not be a standard cover that has been cut.

900MAN 29-Aug-2006 20:42

Guess I'll find out soon.
Cant imagine the 'from solid' but hey ho lets find out.
£4 postage is also very cheap.

Col996s 29-Aug-2006 20:50

Looks good Steve.
If you continue to bling up the 999 you won't want to sell it.

900MAN 29-Aug-2006 21:07

Dont start, perhaps I'll try those ferracci riser bars and have the seat softened up a bit.

If when you get it, the surface of the metal looks porous rather than a smooth machined metal surface then it could be a cut Die Cast one, as the metal surface is not fine.
This is why you also see cheap ones on the market they are powder coated to hide the porous surface.
Would still be interested in you posting you findings when it arrives in the post.

Paul James 29-Aug-2006 21:11

I rather like the solid original ones, well I do now since the clutch got totally fangoolered when I dismounted from the bike while it was still going quite quickly while fitted with a carbon cover !

rcgbob44 29-Aug-2006 22:18

I have a D.P one in black and it does look good!

final_edition 29-Aug-2006 22:54

Try looking mpl-tuningparts from Germany who sell ally bits on ebay at a fraction of their web prices.
Their type two covers can be had for as little as £53 +£8p&p
They are quality billet parts. Superb delivery aswell

FiscusFish 29-Aug-2006 23:06

I've bought stuff from MPL in the past and would normally recommend them, but to be honest I wasn't that impressed with the clutch cover I got from them.

In my opinion it's way too thin and I certainly wouldn't trust it to stand up to any sort of accident. It's about half the thickness of an old Tecmoto billet one I have and I've found myself swapping the Tecmoto over to whichever bike I decide to take on trackdays, just in case...

final_edition 29-Aug-2006 23:08

I think they must've beefed it up nowadays, as they are quite substantial.

900MAN 30-Aug-2006 15:33

got a deal with the guy and have bought the pressure plate as well.
£76 inc postage.(both items)
Was thinking of a red cover with blue plate. not sure what colour to go with on the spring caps?
Think this combo will work well on my black S multi.
Should match the blue bits on the ohlins.
What do you reckon?

I think you need your eyes tested

900MAN 30-Aug-2006 16:32

how about blue cover and red plate?
Or classic black with red pressure?

900MAN 31-Aug-2006 11:09

Well I asked the guy about the products and he said this
"
I confirm you that every article that I sell, from cover to nuts or
screws, is machined from a solid piece of aluminium or ergal.
every one.

PS what combo shall I choose
The bike is black with gold Ohlins so was gonna for a black cover with a gold plate and blue caps to amtch the blue on top of the ohlins.
OR Gold cover with black plate and gold caps.
Damn, i'm gonna have my fist poll

Got the stuff today and looks good to me, here's some pics

Pleased with the gold, it matchs the Ohlins perfectley and the blue caps match the Ohlins adjusters.

I'll psot a pic when all on

moto748 09-Sep-2006 19:21

Some nice looking kit there!

I bought a "machined from solid" ally sprocket cover off ebay a while back, and I'm very pleased with it. It's got slots in it so you can see the retaining plate.

* disclaimer: Had a few wines so I cold be missing the point of your post ;)

Iconic944ss 10-Sep-2006 00:21

It was mentioned that a black cover with a red pressure plate looked good and this is my way of saying that I agree AND that MPL make good kit...

Only one bottle of Stella downed here - so no problem - still catching up!

antonye 14-Sep-2006 11:56

Oooo, yes! That looks very nice and goes well with the Ohlins colours as you said. Look forward to seeing it in the flesh next week at The Angel?

900MAN 14-Sep-2006 13:55

Cheers

Dont want to over do things but might pop on a blue oil filler and some black anodised footpegs. I'm hoping the pegs look good and give a bit more grip than the standard items

Now where's the blue rim tape.........(joking)
