Disabling the sidestand cutout - HOW? I can't start my 996 with the sidestand down due to the cutout which makes it a pain especially when warming up. Apparantly its quite easy to disconnect but leave the cutout that prevents you riding off with the sidestand down. So how do you do it? Or do I have to buy a kit? Where from? |
Hi Mate, I got my kit from Bike Gizmos. They are in Australia of all places but delivery time was less than a week from placing my order. Very nice piece of kit and takes all of 10 mins to install. Uses proper factory Ducati connectors so no cutting of wires etc needed, just plugs right in and away you go! Lets you run the engine with the stand down but as soon as you put it in gear with the stand down, the engine will cut out. Best 'til last - £22 inc shipping!!! Neil. |
I'll second that.... I got mine from bike gizmos also. Great product... Great service.... Great price. |
Hi Webby, I got mine done at Cornerspeed with a kit that Nelly supplied and fitted during it's 6K service. I think it was an Evoluzione bit of kit? Wasn't much to buy, and is easy to fit apparently (even though I had mine done for me). Does the job well, but with one exception. The kit senses that the bike is in neutral by tapping into the neutral switch. So if your neutral light is ON you can start the bike on its sidestand. Like so many Dukes, my neutral light has started to play up and is often lit when the bike is in gear. Sometimes the switch behaves itself and the light goes out when you select a gear, sometimes the neutral light just has a faint, wicked glimmer and sometimes it's almost as bright as it is when you have neutral selected. It's one of those "I'll sort it when I get around to it" type of faults. In the meantime you need to be careful, because now the bike will start in gear if the light has the faintest glimmer, and of course even if it was in neutral to start with, the engine wouldn't cut either if the selector got knocked accidentally. It's not the sidestand kits fault, but something to be careful of |
I modified mine the old fashioned way, losing the front on diesel!!! bust the cutout switch so the bike would start with the sidestand down :frog: |
Don't buy a kit. All you need to do is run a wire from the side stand into the neutral switch. When in neutral the side stand switch will earth out through the neutral sensor and allow the bike to be started. You will need to use a diode to prevent the neutral light showing when the side stand is up. all in all costs about 50p. when done if the bike is put into gear when the stand is down it will kill the engine(just like every other bike). hope this helps. |

Webby - do what Bryan says - or bring it over for Al to do. Otherwise if you really like spending money, Stu at spareshack does them in a nice clean packet:D |
looks like Al has got himself a job then ... or let me have a crack at it ..??? |
yep I would like mine done as well all around CK& AK this weekend then :lol::lol: |
Thanks for the advice Guys extremely useful as always. Anyway Dibble I think I'll pass on your offer thanks. AK looks like you've got a job, although I've since had an offer from Brett at Pro Twins to sort it out as well. So Al where does the queue start, and will it have to end up multi-coloured? |
Al is a bit 'tied up' this weekend (no, dont even go down that road:lol: ).......going to Essex Arena to do his Yank bits on Sunday, loading for it Sat pm.... Will see what he can sort for next w/end - maybe I could get him to earn some coffees at the DSC Hants meet next Sunday, as he is planning on giving the project its first airing there....... C |
CK the mind boggles!!!!! Hampshire here we come - hopefully!!!!!!!!! What's Al's hourly rate? |
Can you just add a shorting link on the loom connector where the side stand switch plugs in. I guess this would allow you to start the bike in gear too, a risk but is you are unsure about your nutral light and having to positivly check for nutral, it shouldn't be too much of an issue?? Rgds, Rob |
Just found this on the message board: ----------------- I did this myself to my 998, and it cost 50p for the diode. Procedure is to connect a IN4001 diode from the +ve side of the neutral light to the 'Blue' wire side of the sidestand, with the 'striped' end of the diode connected to the neutral light side. This has worked well for over 12 months and for 50p, a real bargain. This way means that the engine operates either when the side stand is up, or when both the sidestand is down and the neutral light is on. ----------------- http://www.ducatisportingclub.com/co...ad.php?tid=122 |
