996 setttings for Ohlins - help wanted! Following my leaking fork seal at Donny, I whipped the forks out and had them and the rear shock serviced. Obviously I made note of my settings beforehand, but the shop suggested they were a bit strange and had given me a more baseline setting. I did Cadwell on Wednesday, and the bike was 'orrible. It wallowed on the bump into Coppice, and felt very loose elsewhere. I gave myself 3 more clicks of comp damping on the back and 1 full turn of preload and it seems that's going in the right direction. It's definately heading the way of my original settings. The question I wanted to ask was what settings do other owners use? The bike is a 996S with Ohlins R&T forks and a piggyback rear shock. I weigh in at around 15 tons (sorry stone) |
Give K-Tech, Maxton or Kais a call with your svelt details, I'm sure they can assist |

It was Kais who took the settings back to where "they" thought they should be! |
I was going to say lose some weight ...but people in glass houses n all that! You need to start from the beginning mate. Set your ride height, set height of your forks etc etc, Static sag front and rear. Then try to achieve loaded sag. before you ever get to fine damper tuning! |
I did say KAIS last..... ;) Think Shaun had a bit of an issue there last time from memory |

They've done dirt bike stuff for me and set up standard road bike stuff for me before and i've been very pleased. This time i got the shock resprung and revalved to suit my excess blubber. Wasn't happy with the results, went back twice, first to get it set up on the bike, and again to get it resprung (wrong spring had been fitted), improved it but still not happy and was in a rush to get it sorted before going to France. Took it to Maxton, job sorted at first attempt, very pleased. BIG UP TO MAXTON, who also did my ST4s in the past and that was a superb job as well. |
Thought this might be a toughie! Got all my previous settings including sag's etc. Gonna put perhaps one more click into rear comp damping and perhaps one more turn of rear preload half a turn at a time. If that feels right I'll go from there, but if not will simply revert to my original settings cos I know they worked fine for most of the circuit. It's that damn bump on the entry to Coppice that's doing me in, the bike now feels very squirmy through there and it's making me back off when normally I'm through there flat in 5th. Am also getting some movement on the change from Chris into the Goose. Roll on Montag, ding dang do :burn: |
You're not going to get out of second gear on monday John so i wouldn't worry about it! I'll bring that CD of video editing software with me. |
