Numpty question

Taking small variables into account, what RPM will a 583 motor top out/redline/stop accelerating at? First track day today to test new bike and found myself changing up at around 8600 RPM or bike would feel like it's no longer making progress, midrange from about 4000 RPM she pulled like a train (not a big train but still a train :D ) does this seem about normal ? I'm more used to a screaming inline four, Myk

I always changed up a bit earlier than that on my Class B bike, If I dig out my old Dyno graph I will be able to tell you where peak power and peak torque were, but somebody currently racing Class B will probably be along soon and give you the info

Thanks Kevin, felt unnaturally early to change up after the inline 4, in which case I'm really happy after my first day on the track, looking forward to brands

I use 8000rpm as a guide. Mine runs out of steam about then

coppersaucepipe 24-Feb-2014 13:00

8200

Roughly 8250, with a good boot up the box you should still be 7750ish in the next gear and pulling again.

Had two different 600ss bikes on dyno, they both similar, and seem to make maximum power around 7400rpm it stays flatish to around 7800rpm then power starts to drop off. But the feel is nearer to what everyone else is saying, about 8000.

I had only ever ridden in line fours pre DD and it took a bit of getting used to at first but you soon learn to ride the low down torque. Also if you've got standard igniters then I think they limit the revs to about 9k anyway

Taking bike to seastar superbikes on Saturday to have bike checked on rolling road, anyone know if I can set up a shift light easily, bike has a mychron 3 dash, only thing connected to it is the pulse lead for reading the RPM and a lead with a white 4 pin square pin plug don't know what that bits for, Myk
