Hi guys, just gone to boot up the pc.Won't even load windows.Hangs in DOS saying"verifying dmi pool data"Won't boot from floppy, hard drive or cd rom.Can only get into the bios.I'm running xp prof.Any help is MOST WELCOME!!
It's not getting to the Windows software bit yet, so it looks as if there's a problem with memory, hard disk or mother board.
If you've recently put in new memory, check its seated properly. Check cables going to the hard drives are correctly in place.
Resetting the BIOS may be an option, there's usually a small jumper pin on the mother board that resets the system back to its factory state - where it is depends on the type of motherboard you have.

Rich,
My experience tells me that if anything strange occurs with your PC and you haven't changed any hardware/software yourself recently then it's normally virus or spyware related.
Have you and can you run a virus boot disk?
Let me know if you haven't got AV software cos I may be able to help you out.

If your hard drive has gone m8 that would not stop you booting to floppy or CD. If you can get into the Bios settings, you can change the boot order. If it is set to Hard Disk first, thats probally why you can not boot to Floppy or CD. Might be worth booting to floppy even if your hard disc is down, as you may be able to get to some data depending on how your drive is formated. There is a resuce CD that Sysinternals do that will boot to Windows PE to allow you get the data off or repair. Quite a few options still left for you depending on how bad you want that data. Let me know if I can help anymore.
