Rally live up to his name...

If any Surrey/Hampshire members are not off to the NEC next Saturday and are looking for something to do, then check out the Tempest Rally. It starts at Rushmore Arena near Aldershot and runs though the forests North around Blackbushe & Hartfordbridge. Details can be found on the event website.

I’m competing in the National B section of the event in my good’ol Mk II Escort and will running as car number 135. This is the first event I’ve done in 4 years (gulp) so I can’t promise to be very quick, but I can promise to wave at anyone wearing a DSC t-shirt… as long as you help pull me out if I end up in a ditch as a result.

I used to do a lot of events in the forests of Wales in the 90's. I have won stuff but, you know what it's like, unless you're competing regularly it's difficult to be competative. It takes me a run of least 4 events to get the pace back.

Plus my co-driver is a buddy and this is his first event as a sac-of-spuds, oops, I mean valuable member of the team.

But this is my local event so it's a good one to dust off the car and provides a deadline to get it finished - both the engine and gearbox has been rebuilt. And if it breaks, it's not so far to trailer it back

Since there's next to no chance of winning anything I won't be trying to go fast - I'll be out to see how sideways I can get it on each corner

The timetable is available here.

It's a very leisurely start for us in the clubman section: 11am.

As for the stages: Arena is a short blast next to the service area at Rushmoor Arena. Minley is part tarmac part loose and, although there's not spectators allowed, it has been known for people to watch at the hairpin here.

Yately & Warren is proper forest. There is a popular spot in Warren that is very close to the road here.

Naturally, the car isn't ready yet... but there's still a few days to go

Well, what can I say!!

Michael - we had a lovely day today - saw you through 3 different stages (but I'm sure you didnt see us on the MOD ranges near Ash - one of the bits where it was 'no spectators' - we were among the crowd at the top of the blind crest, before the last hazard of strawbales close to the end)

Hope you improved even more on your great times (5th in class) later - and that your co-pilot wasnt so sick as the day went on.

Alan had a great time catching up with lots of old mates from his days rallying back in the mid '80s.

Bloody great day out
