Can anyone help and tell me what size sockets i need to remove the engine from the frame,before i buy the wrong ones!...as mine are too big and wont fit down the tubes i cant tell what size they are.
Need to know the sizes for the swingarm one and both of the upper ones.

I bought a full set of 3/8 th deep sockets from halfords and ratchet for the job and i think you need a 14mm allan ket but not sure on that but i know i hacd to buy one when i full stripped my 748

the spark plug socket in your bike tool kit fits in the allen key slot you are talking about

If it's the same as 749's your best bet is to buy a 1/2" drive 14mm and 15mm long reach socket and then use an angle grinder or similar to take a little bit more of the outside diameter of the socket. Rap the socket with a layer of gaffer tape to stop it scratching the frame when you slide it down the frame tube to reach the engine mount.

For the large allen key on the swing arm you can buy a 1/2" drive "hexagonal plug" from the motorist discount shop.

All in all, a £10 and some ingenuity will sort it.

A usefull tip on engine removal - remove the swinging arm bolt before stripping bike. I made up a draw bolt assembly out of 8mm studding but couldn't shift the bolt until engine was run up to temperature.

For the swing arm I made up a length of tube, used 15 or 19mm Dia tube used for a wardrobe hanging rail from B & Q.

I cut it so that it was a few mm less then the distance between the inside of the frame mounts. I used it to tap out the swing arm bolt and slid it into the swing arm and engine in place of the bolt. It kept the swing arm located to the engine, held the bearings in place and allowed the frame to be lifted up and off the engine.

swing arm 20mm with the allen key on the clutch leaver side

Agree with Keefer if its late model but think smaller engine mounting bolts on earleir bikes.

Allen key for swing arm is in your official toolkit or should be.
