Has anyone ever had a garage (or smaller bike-storage-type-thingy) built onto the side of their house?
If so, what kind of costs were involved? A ball-park figure will do.
I'm thinking about a brick built unit, about 8ft x 10ft - fitted onto a corner of the house, so-to-speak, with two of its walls actually formed by the existing property. It'll have a skylight on its roof, and a bike sized roller-shutter door on the front.
A builder we use at work quoted me £10k plus for a traditional detached single garage. I think you could buy the materials and build it your self for somewhere around £2.5K. Work it out, bricks measure 102.5mm wide by 215mm long by 75mm high plus a 10mm joint. They cost around 20p each.
Concrete for a base is about £65 a cubic metre and the slab will need to be at least 150 thick.
Concrete sectional garage cost about £1500 including delivery and building (plus slab).

I'm just finishing a bike workshop/garage/office. It's 32 x 24 ft and is built entirely from plywood. I built a timber frame first then clad it with 1/2" exterior ply on the outside, lined the gap with various thickneses of polystyrene and clad the inner walls and roof with 1/4 ply. The foor is tongue n grooved floor sheeting. With electrics etc I'm not gonna see much change out of 10k.
60 bricks the meter square 10 blocks to meter square 60 clay tiles to meter square i worked out a cost earlier but was waiting for others the size you want plus proper footings (not a raft) pitched tiled roof cavity walls insulation electrics and skylight labour skips etc you wouldnt get a lot of change from the 6k mark inc vat + of course the cost of yer shutterdoor thingy-- based the price around the southern prices--- id even chuck in some ground anchors for a fellow biker
