Anyone know anything about Dubai ?

I've an overnight stop in Dubai and as it will be just me and 8 yr old daughter i'd like to know what to expect. I know they don't do the drinky stuff but presumably it's a safe-ish place to spend a night ?
I'm a terrible worrier when travelling alone!

Dubai is fantastic and very safe. They love kids and there is plenty to do.Their is a water park next door to the 7 star Burj Al Arab Hotel, apparently one of my mates got a room online for £120!.They do drive like loonys though.Great for shopping and the food is pretty great everywhere.

I have been going to Dubai for the last 15 years, about 6 to eight times each year.

Alchol is freely available in hotel bars and restaurants, beer is about £4 a pint and they have every kind of bottles & draft that you gete here then more!.

Its a very very safe place, depending where you stay is what you would be able to do in the evening.

Let me know where your staying and I1`ll let you know.

By the way the Gold Suik and Dubai Duty free are places where you can do seriuos damage to the plastic.

Gold is definitly worth buying and the raffle for the Harly at the Duty fee is always good as well, tickets cost 100 Dihram (about £20).

Phew - thanks for the info. I feel less worried now.

I'll be stopping here : http://www.theempirehotel.com/main.htm about 8 kms from the airport so I guess i'll just get a taxi from there ?

I'm only there overnight on the way out and I guess will be pretty tired and then fly onward to Oz next afternoon.

Just gotta renew the little ones passport now and get me visa - I'm so excited
