Exclamation Broken Spring Do-Da......

Following my off ive started stripping down the 916 and all seemed well with the engine, no significant metal bits in the oil etc, until i took the flywheel side casing off. There's a spring thing on the gear change linkage which seems to have snapped, with a bit lying in the bottom of the engine casing as below in the pics,

The spring do-da,

the bit that broke off,

Now what do you all think, was this a result of the off or is it a known problem that can happen?? Either way what else will i need to check to be sure nothing else is damaged in the area??

I'm just happy the little bit didn't make it into anything moving

Cheers in advance,

Shandy

If you look at Fordie's thread you will see that spring and where it goes in one of his photos, hope that helps.

The spring isn't a common problem, but they do break. Not an expensive fix as they are available seperately.
Watch the alignment of the selector arm when you refit it though.

.....but better in YELLOW, or Bloo and now even RED
