Mood: I can live with backpain!
Carburretors-the devils own rubik cube!

I've got my carburretors off,and in bits.
I'm spraying everything in carb cleaner but still havent a clue what the important bits are, somehow I'd expected a set up like the airbrushes I'm used to,but I dont recognise anything as nozzle like, suppose I'm showing my ignorance now.
The guys at Ducati glasgow told me I wont need a new set of carb gaskets if I'm careful, which I have been, though they seem to have expanded ever so slightly and am now worried they wont fit properly as I try and put it all back together.
Whats the verdict then?...do I need new gaskets?and how much will that set me back?
Or do I call it a day, take them to the nearest dealer and say"fix this!",tnen bolt the whole lot back together and hope it works.

The thin brown body gaskets do get a bit crushed out of shape but providing they are intact should be Ok.

I think its more important to be careful with the rubber type diphragms under the rounded top of the carbs that can be easily damaged.

Erm...other bits to look for:
The main slide, should do just that, slide smoothly in the bore.
The big needle should have a smooth profile and a sharp tip.
No blockages in any jets.
The plastic float assembly should all move easily - be careful around here as well.

I think I still have an unused stage 1 Dynojet kit laying around somewhere if its of any use

Good luck - Frank

Dave, the old gaskets should be fine, providing they are in one piece.
An old trick I was taught was to gently rub LM Grease on/into them. This'll soak in to the paper and make it more pliable again. It'll help it seal correctly as well.
Iconic has covered all the main points to watch out for.
Check also that the floats aren't puntured and above all, keep everything spotlessly clean...........
Have fun

It's worth checking the needle jets too (The bit the needle runs in). They wear oval shaped and make the bike run rough at lower RPMs. More info, including pictures of what to look for, here http://www.factorypro.com/products/n...20rebuild.html
