748R Rear brake? Not any longer... Went out today to blow the cobwebs off and when I stopped I noticed brake fluid dripping from the rear caliper :barfy: It would appear that the rear caliper piston seal on one side had burst and not only had the piston melted on to what was left of the pad (are the pistons ceramic or plastic?) but also one half of the caliper had ground it self on the rear disc. :barfy: :barfy: Problem I now have is a) shagged caliper b) shagged disc and c) shagged pads Before I shell out on a new Brembo rear caliper, disc and pads, are there any other better options available that will not require me to sell a kidney to buy? Any info (or offers of said Brembo caliper) gratefully received! PS. The brake fluid has also left marks on my Marchesini wheels. My wife couldn't see them and told me I was being anal, but now I now they are there... :flame: |
breaker or flea bay |
Found one on Ebay for £45 which I thought was a bargain. Had images of a £300+ bill!!! Any thoughts on wavy rear discs? Fashion or useful (considering that Duke rear brakes appear to be pants anyway)? |
L3OONY, Sorry to hear of your prob. Sounds painfull. Re. the Rear Wavey disks. I have one of the Braking items on my '01 748R and have to say it's a vast improvement Vs standard for a mere £60. You won't regret it. Guido |
Guido> Are you running the stock caliper and pads? |
Guido, Cheers for the info. Where would I find one of these, and as Moto748 mentioned, are you using standard caliper and pads? |
Harris Performance will sell the exact same unit for £44.01 + vat including brake pads - sounds like a bargain to me! |
Chaps, Yup, running stock 748R caliper but have since moved to SBS pads. Bendix, Carbon Lorraine will work equally as well. So far as sources for the Brakings......... Try Talon Engineering. They're the UK distributor for Braking Wave Disks http://www.talon-eng.co.uk/ Rhencullen do them too although I found Talon had a better stock so I got the one's for my 748R straight away whereas with Rhencullen, I'd have had to get them ordered in (no doubt from Talon anyway). |
and a close-up of the rear |
glad its not just me who thinks the rear brakes useless mmmmmmmm how much did you say a rear wavy was, wonder what i can sell to buy one !!!!!!! |
