Lap timer question

I have a lap timer I wanted to try out at the weekend. It is the type with a separate beacon. Anyone know if the lap timer will work off cadwell's beacon so I don't have to use my separate beacon?

If I switch the ignition on without starting the bike up I can hear the fuel pump turning on and off when I flick the kill switch on and off. But if I start the bike up the kill switch has no affect.
