998 fan problem ?????

Ok I managed to get hold of a 998 fan. Ran a test with it tonight but found the following issues.

Turn ignition on fan runs for approx 1 second (weird)
Run bike up to and past temp and nothing...

Depends on budget. If the steel plates are not discoloured and not warped just buy the friction plates. Start at around 70 quid on the bay for non Ducati.

You could use the 620/800 coils if you have them. I have the 998 ones and they are both 2 wire but spade connectors on the 620 and a 2 pin plug on the 998 so just a case of adding the plug if need...

Pretty sure the pump pressure duration is controlled by the ECU. However, the fuel pressure regulator could also be u/s and running the pump with no fuel is not a good idea.

Turns out that the 998 pump primes on the key and Ducati in there wisdom changed one wire in the front harness.

So the pump primes, manually bridge solenoid to turn over and you get one spark and no fuel :mad:

Also does not matter if the side stand switch is bridged or not

Yep that's the problem. I cured it with of all things a sharpened 748 inner fork spacer. Put the plug lead inside it and then in the hydraulic press at work snipped about 2 mm off. Trimmed it down...

Yes you can change the head gasket in the frame. However, I do not think that is your problem. Incorrect fuelling seems to be the issue.

As Kev said. Also are you sure the closer shims are seating correctly. Once they have been out even with the original half rings they can sometimes need quite a bit of persuasion to seat correctly....

Also beware if there a track day the day before. I turned up last year on the Thursday at 2pm only to be told it was no entry until 6pm and to make things worse it was a car track day. LOL
