I cut the side out of an old plastic gallon oil...

I cut the side out of an old plastic gallon oil can, then you have an easy cap to unscrew for when you pour the oil down the drain....No spills either.

My only concern with powder coating would be that if you get a chip in it then the coating will tend to lift and water etc could get underneath and corrode the wheel without you noticing.

I simply did away with the connect all together. Soldered the wires and a bit of heat shrink. Only becomes a problem if the motor has to come out.
