I'm sure there was a place in the States that made replacement nuts from alu just for this purpose? Might be worth a search to see if you can find a replacement first before a whole new unit!

Although you will probably get it to talk to the bike (over OBD - On-Board Diagnostics - the language that most ECUs can talk in)...

You also need to disconnect the rear brake light...

You also need to disconnect the rear brake light switch connector. Follow the wires up from the brake switch on the right from the footpeg and it's the first one you come to.
